Karaoke @ The Three Monkeys...and the after effects
It all started with an advertisement on the tram (last week on Wednesday), which read "Karaoke Tonight at the Three Monkeys". Naturally, Todrick was curious - even though he was wearing his pajama top because the plan was just to go for coffee. Well, Karaoke was supposed to start at 21:00 (9p.m.), and we were the first ones there. In reality, it didn't start until 23:00! No matter, because we were entertained by a hilarious bartender from Scotland - and by a few drinks. As the place filled up and Todrick had already written his Karaoke songs on a napkin, it finally started. Todrick was the second singer with "When Doves Cry" by Prince. Well, what we didn't know was that there was a Karaoke competition going on that night with the first prize being a party for 10 people after you win 5 rounds of singing. To make a long story short, Todrick won the five rounds (what a surprise!) and a voucher for 1 bottle of vodka, one liter of juice, and 24 bottles of beer for the following Tuesday at the 3 Monkeys.
Fast forward...
The following Tuesday: We had been trying to find 10 people to meet us at the 3 Monkeys for free drinks, but we ended up just being three. Oh, well...we were going to enjoy our party anyway. When we arrived at the 3 Monkeys that night, there was another surprise: a live band! And our hilarious Scottish bartender was there as well. It was his idea to introduce Todrick to the band because maybe he could sing a few songs with them. But the band was really more into rock and not into soul music at all. At first it didn't seem like there would be any song that they can play together...until they told Todrick that they can play "Purple Rain". Perfect! Next thing you know, Todrick was introduced on stage as the "Karaoke Man", and nobody payed much attention to him - until he started singing! All around me I could hear people shout out in astonishment: "He's good!!!" Purple Rain was a hit, people were cheering and screaming, so they did "Mustang Sally", as the crowd went wild. It was great! After that, Todrick left the stage, sat down with us at the bar again, and one minute later the manager of the place approached him. He immediately said, he would like for him to sing at his bar regularly, maybe every other week. Well, e-mail and phone numbers were exchanged, there was a lot of small-talk and general questioning, there were gorgeous women smiling at the fabulous T-Wayne and telling him how great he is, etc. The band leader war obviously impressed - especially after Todrick told him he can dance like James Brown - he came over again and asked if Todrick would sing "I feel good". Even though Todrick was not wearing his dancing shoes, he was throwing down!!! The crowd went bananas when he did the split (no pun intended).
Once again, we stumbled out of the 3 Monkeys at 2a.m. smiling after a successful night. As far as singing there goes - we'll keep you posted.
